SMH Private Equity Group was formed to invest in early-stage companies and provide on-going professional investment management.

SMH Private Equity Group is an extension of Sanders Morris Harris' longstanding and successful private equity investment business. SMH Private Equity Group focuses on early-stage, private technology companies. It will concentrate on energy technologies, healthcare technologies and other select technology-driven situations. Initial investments have centered on energy and power-market technology development and marketing projects in North America.

Energy
We live in Houston, Texas, the energy capital of the world. More major energy exploration and production companies are based in Houston than anywhere else. Texas is the epicenter of a supporting cast that numbers in the thousands—the largest oil companies, drilling contractors, seismic companies, tooling providers, engineering firms, power distributors, energy market markers, and energy retailers have corporate headquarters here. Collectively, they spend billions of dollars annually and their appetite for improved technology is enormous. The level of information technology adoption within the energy sector is huge. We believe this newly elevated acceptance of information and process technology will increase.

Healthcare
Houston hosts the largest medical center in the world. It is a city of medical firsts and the largest concentration of medical institutions in the U.S.  As such, Houston is a developer, incubator and consumer of healthcare technologies, many of them from leading institutions who are mandated to pursue technology transfer with the private sector. Moreover, as leaders within the world medical community, Houston's institutions are significant early adopters of emerging healthcare technologies, assisting in the commercialization of promising services and devices. SMH and the principals of SMH Private Equity Group have extensive experience, expertise and contacts within the Houston medical community as well as in other healthcare technology centers the U.S. and Europe.

The Managers are based in Houston, Texas. SMH Private Equity Group's geographic focus is primarily the Southwestern U.S. and secondarily North America.
